Paper Back Wallpaper

Hanging Guide

RECOMMENDATIONS

Only hang wallpaper on a clean, smooth, and dry surface.

Painted surfaces must be dry and hard. In the event of a fresh coat of paint, leave to dry for 7 to 10 days before hanging the wallpaper. If the paint has not fully dried it can degas. If you hang the wallpaper on this type of surface it will peel and leave air bubbles.

Make sure the wall is completely dry and clean before applying the wallpaper. If the wall feels damp or has any signs of water damage, like mold or condensation, don’t put up the wallpaper. It won’t stick properly. Instead, clean the wall thoroughly

Surface Preparation:

Ensure the wall surface is clean, smooth, and free from dust, grease, and other contaminants. Repair any cracks or imperfections in the wall and allow them to dry completely.

If the surface is porous (e.g., drywall or plaster), it may need to be sealed with a primer/sealer to prevent the wallpaper adhesive from being absorbed too quickly.

Apply Wallpaper Paste:

Prepare the wallpaper paste according to the manufacturer’s instructions if using powdered or pre-mixed paste.

Use a paint roller or brush to spread wallpaper paste evenly on the back of the wallpaper, covering it completely to the edges

Pay special attention to the edges and corners to prevent lifting during installation.

Booking Wallpaper:

“Booking” refers to allowing the paste to activate by folding the pasted sides of the wallpaper together, adhesive side in, for a few minutes according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This allows the paste to penetrate and activate fully.

Hang Wallpaper:

Only hang on a completely clean, dry surface

Starting from a corner, carefully position the first strip of wallpaper onto the wall, ensuring it is aligned properly and leaving a small overlap at the ceiling and baseboard.

Use a wallpaper smoother or brush to gently smooth out any air bubbles or wrinkles, working from the center outwards.

Continue hanging additional strips of wallpaper, matching patterns as needed, and ensuring proper alignment and overlap at corners.

Trim excess wallpaper at the ceiling and baseboard using a sharp utility knife or wallpaper trimmer.

Overlap – Optional

Overlap the following strip by 2 cm. Using the Stanley knife and the ruler, cut down the middle of the matching piece, cutting through two thicknesses of the wallpaper without touching the underlying medium. Remove the surplus material, on the right-hand side length and on the left-hand side strip. Match up and press. Use a Stanley knife and a ruler if you need to cut out edges and corners.

Clean Up:

Wipe away any excess paste from the surface of the wallpaper using a damp sponge or cloth.

Clean any tools used for application promptly to prevent the paste from drying and hardening on them.

IMPORTANT:

Because of the great variety of surfaces and application methods the installer must examine the suitability of the media for each application. Little Hands assumes no liability for claims beyond the replacement value of any product proven to be defective in material or workmanship and is not liable for direct, indirect, damages or consequential loss. Several factors will adversely affect adhesion of a pressure sensitive adhesive, examples are:

– Dusty, humid, dirty, oxidized or textured surfaces.
– Mould release on plastic or concrete.
– Poor adhesion of the paint to the substrate.
– Low surface energy.
– Application below the minimum temperature or use outside the recommended temperature range.
– Chemical spills or vapors.
– Paints containing dirt repellant substances such as silicones.
